Communications Manager

Position Summary

At Visit Montgomery, we use storytelling to connect people to the places, experiences, and communities that make Montgomery County what it is. The Communications Specialist plays a key role in executing Visit Montgomery’s communications efforts across owned media channels (website, social, app, and email). This position focuses on content creation, audience engagement, and support for earned media initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Content & Communications

  • Write, edit, and publish experiential content including blog articles, website updates, email campaigns, and digital communications.
  • Execute content aligned with Visit Montgomery’s marketing campaigns, seasonal priorities, and brand voice.
  • Maintain and implement editorial calendars for content and social media.
  • Assist with content development for marketing materials such as itineraries, one sheets and promotional copy.
  • Build and update landing pages using WordPress.
  • Support basic SEO and emerging GEO content optimization best practices.

 

Email Marketing

  • Produce and distribute consumer facing email communications.
  • Maintain email lists, segment audiences, and monitor performance metrics.
  • Continually refine messaging and cadence to meet established KPIs.

 

Social Media & Digital Engagement

  • Draft, schedule, and publish social media content across Visit Montgomery platforms.
  • Monitor engagement, respond to comments and messages, and support community interaction.
  • Create short-form content (stories, reels, basic video or graphic content).
  • Track and report social media performance metrics and evolve content strategy to support established KPIs.

 

Public Relations Support

  • Support earned media efforts, including drafting press materials and pitching story ideas.
  • Maintain media contact lists and tracking coverage.
  • Support logistics for press visits, familiarization (FAM) tours, and hosting content creators.

 

Collaboration & Team Support

  • Work closely with cross-departmental team members to support campaigns and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with community and tourism partners to gather content, updates, and stories.
  • Participate in Visit Montgomery events and partner activities as needed to support content creation and engagement.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in communications, content marketing, or a related role.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms, social media management tools, and media monitoring software. (or the ability to learn quickly)
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating within a small team.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in destination marketing, tourism, hospitality, or a related industry.
  • Familiarity with analytics and performance tracking for digital content.
  • Basic photography, video editing, and design skills within Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience working with external partners, vendors, or contractors.

 

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work environment with required in-office collaboration.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work to support events, campaigns, or partner activities.
  • Some local travel within Montgomery County.
