Job Summary
A Convention Services Manager (CSM) provides a wide range of event planning and logistics, event management, client and patron relations, and other related skills in support of events contracted at the Baltimore Convention Center (The Center). One of several members of the Convention Services team, a CSM, works with minimal supervision from an administrative superior and is expected to resolve problems by reference to general work instructions or occupational practices, procedures, and precedents. The results of their efforts ensure the BCC provides a positive experience for Center clients and associated visitors. This position partners closely with the Center’s service providers such as Telecommunications, Audio/Visual, Catering, and Utilities as well as event management from Visit Baltimore. All actions of the CSM must be in accordance with the policies and procedures of the BCC and the City of Baltimore. The CSM is a part of the Sales, Services, and Marketing department and reports directly to the Assistant Director of Convention Services.
Essential Functions
The CSM is an exempt-from-overtime position and is classified as essential personnel within the City of Baltimore. The work of this individual involves working evening, weekend, and holiday hours as well as being on call 24-hours a day when leading an event. (The following duties and examples illustrate the work performed in the position. This list is not inclusive. Other duties not listed may be required to accomplish the work of the Convention Center.)
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Have a bachelor's degree in business, public relations, hospitality, marketing or related field from an accredited college or university. *Commensurate experience will be considered in-lieu of degree*
AND
Experience: Have three years of experience in public relations, business, hospitality, marketing, or related field work at the intermediate level.
Preferred – Possesses professional event-based certification(s) (CASE, CEM, CMP, CVP, etc.) and is actively engaged with industry professional organizations (ASAE, IAEE, IAVM, MPI, PCMA, etc.)
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-MONTH mandatory probation.
